Don't you just love to hate remote meetings?

I've got bad news. Remote is here to stay. And there is no silver bullet to fix what ails your meeting culture. It's just you and your peers showing up as better facilitators.

Let’s do it.

Untangle your team

Working with diverse teams brings a lot of unique expertise to the table. But it takes facilitation to bring these skills together – without someone to hold space for everyone, you move a lot but without getting very far.

▫️

Turn talking into traction

In the moment, you may feel like having more meetings will increase impact – it won’t. Remote collaboration is hard. Every additional person exponentially increases the number of relationships. Facilitation is the super power that cuts collaboration overhead and brings out the best in your team. But how do we get better at a skill that is so…subjective?

▫️

📣  Stop having meetings that don't matter.

If you try and do anything in groups, facilitation will happen. Rather than let it happen you can make it happen and make it better. So how do we go from days packed full of meetings, to finding connection and traction in our remote collaboration?

▫️

✨ Facilitation Jumpstart is an intensive, cohort-based course to develop personal facilitation skills for remote collaboration.

You may be wondering if Facilitation Jumpstart is even right for you: if facilitation is something that you recognize yourself doing, and you want to learn more in a knowledgeable and supportive environment, this course absolutely is for you 👍.

Who am I to take you on this journey?

I'm Alix. I became a facilitator while running a global technology nonprofit.

I love it and now focus exclusively on facilitation as a service. I have supported many clients to design and host meetings with HUGE ambitions.

▫️

I know these skills are teachable, and I want more facilitation capability literally everywhere! In every organization and in every room.

My teaching is about mindset, power dynamics, and supporting diverse teams to do complex things with care. I focus on the durable analytical and design skills that you can use in meetings of any shape, size, or goal.

Course Structure

Preparation

Before the course kicks off, you will work on two things ahead of the live sessions:

▫️

🌏 Facilitation 360

The first step in journey is to get a clear-eyed assessment on your facilitation strengths and weaknesses so you feel empowered to make specific investments of time and energy.

Before the first session we will prepare for you a holistic evaluation of your current facilitation skills and style.

▫️

💪 Foundations

In about an hour of time you can work through videos and interactive assessments that give shape to facilitation as a skill.

I will walk you through the step-by-step process of designing remote meetings. This foundational content will be used in the live sessions, so they are less lecture, more practice and reflection.

Live Sessions

Live sessions give space to interrogate the material, form experiments, and put your learning into practice. Live sessions take different shapes throughout a cohort.

▫️

🙌 Training Sessions

In training sessions, I will walk you through content, facilitate meaningful conversation about what you are learning, and help you get to the bottom of what you are working to improve.

▫️

💼 Office Hours

I host office hours during the course, and you are welcome to join our monthly office hours for as long as you want after the course wraps. I will be there to provide spot advice or coaching on the application of a particular skill or idea.

▫️

🤩 Peer Sessions

We will match you with a group of peers, so you can make new friends and dig deeper into what you are learning throughout the course.

▫️

✨ Optional Sessions

We run the course for teams and organizations. For dedicated team courses, we host conversations about how to move the needle on your team meeting culture We also offer 1:1 coaching calls to supplement group sessions.

Frequently asked questions

Who is this for?

This course is for people who work in remote organisations, and are collaborating across disciplines to do complex things. If you are in a coordination role, have line management responsibilities, or are leading organisations, then you likely need facilitation skills to be inclusive and in turn effective. If you facilitation bounded groups (people that work directly together) or unbounded groups (those that come together for a shared purpose but don’t work together) this course can help you grow your skills.

Ahh I don’t have the time!

Fair! But rest assured, there is no better way to get more time back on your calendar than to improve your facilitation skills. Imagine if your calendar only held meetings that mattered? It’s more than worth spending a few hours building core skills with — an often overlooked — tool in our toolkit.

What do we do in the live sessions?

When we come together in the live sessions we'll get to know each other, discuss the content we've already absorbed, and practice what we've learnt.

I am already pretty expert at post-it exercises and icebreakers… is this for me?

Facilitation Jumpstart does not focus on things like fun techniques to warm up a room. It's about building your skills to hold space with confidence, grounded in your personal facilitation style. At the end you’ll have more intuition about how to make the right choices in the moment (even when your nerves cloud the situation), and how to build a facilitation practice that will grow quickly with new experiences. In fact, if you have spent time reflecting and experimenting on facilitation in the past, you would likely thrive in the course where you will have dedicated space to explore topics like managing interpersonal challenges, and supporting people to work towards particular outcomes.

Do you work with teams?

Yes! In fact, working with teams to improve their skills together can be a powerful way to change not just individual facilitation skills but also organisational meeting culture. You can book a set of seats in a cohort, or if you would prefer to work on your own schedule and have a program of training built with your particular meeting culture in mind, email us here: jump@alixdunn.com.

Can I really learn this?

Absolutely. It’s true that facilitation is relational and contextual. And what works for one person in one organisation, will not work for someone else in another organisation. 'Learning facilitation' does not mean learning a universal formula.

That's why this course starts with a Facilitation 360: we evaluate your facilitation approach so we can identify your strengths and weaknesses, and then we build your learning from there. Then we provide you with the tools, mindset shifts, training, and space to grow into a great facilitator in just a few weeks.

How do I get started?

If you are waiting for the next available cohort, give us your email below and we will keep you up to date on the next course and start sharing ideas and content to get you going. If you want to talk about a course within your organisation, email us at jump@alixdunn.com and we can build one on your own timeline.

My boss wants to know why they should pay for this course. What should I say?

I'd start by explaining why facilitation matters to you and the team. If they want the business case, building skills in facilitation on your team means you can get more done with fewer meetings. And if your team spends resources on external facilitators, the course quickly pays for itself by cutting contractor costs.
